Stanford 's Story
I live in Lakeside California in East San Diego County with my wife Dawn (married May 11, 1983). We have 6 children: Joshua (25) is a Marine reserve and an Emergency Medical Technician; Hannah (23) graduated '08 from Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo where she now lives; Joel (20) works at a busy frozen-yogurt restaurant; Justin (17) goes concurrently to a charter academy and a community college; Jesse (14), and Jonathan (11) are in home-school. We've home-schooled all our kids through 8th grade.
I have been on a dramatic spiritual journey! Those who remember me from Roosevelt High School will recall that I was a Zen Buddhist. In June of 1972 I began to believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, and was baptized in the ocean at Waikiki. After looking into several churches I became a Lutheran, and decided to become a pastor. ned a Masters of Divinity in 1982. I served as a Lutheran pastor for 9 years. As my study of the Holy Scriptures and the history of the Church deepened, I came to understand the reality of Apostolic Tradition as nothing less than the Spirit of Truth dwelling perpetually within the Church as Jesus promised. As a result of this I became Eastern Orthodox in 1991. The final step in my journey came in 1997 when I recognized the primacy of the Pope as the Successor of Peter, and became an Eastern Rite (Byzantine) Catholic.

I met Dawn after graduation from seminary. I was 30 and she was 25. We met in church. She was on vacation in Hawaii, and I was visiting my family before beginning my ministry. We married just 11 months later. She has been with me on my spiritual journey.
